Though I'm a diehard fan of house, techno, drum & bass, extreme metal and a plethora of established styles, there's little that floats my boat quite like a crisply produced album of avant-grade (well, a whisker away from being avant-grade) electronica quite like the strangely monikered AyGeeTee's "Ask Not Why". Constructed, for the most part, from a base of raucous, heavy-duty percussion and a variety of sampled noise teased from folk instruments, wind tunnels and female vocals (I'm guessing here as you can probably tell), each shortish track enacts an assault on your senses that I surmise is meant to be the aural equivalent of a back alley beating, then vanishes to be replaced by something vaguely similar until by the end of track 13 "I Remember That Time (Low)" you've been the victim of a fearful hiding that had it been real and not musical, would have seen you undergoing a variety of medical procedures at your local A&E. In truth, unless your idea of entertainment is being pummelled senseless for 50 minutes, "Ask Not Why" is unlikely to find a place on your shopping list, but then 'sensible' is an adjective very few people have ascribed to yours truly.
